IoW: Day Four

Today we met up with Katherine and visited Godshill and Carisbrooke Castle before finishing off on Sandown beach.

Godshill is a picturesque village full of thatched buildings and a church on a hill. We visited the chocolate shop and watched them being made, had a cream tea at The Essex and walked around the model village.

Katherine then drove us to Carisbrooke Castle. It was a treat to be driven today rather than catching the bus! Carisbrooke was the scene of a battle with the French in the Middle Ages and the prison for Charles I at the end of the civil war. It is a large site with walkable walls and a keep high on a hill.

Finally back on Sandown beach, we all had a good time time building sandcastles and digging holes.

This evening, Ffion won a dancing competition in childrens hour at the site club. Well done, Fi!

There’s now a burst water main in the road which means we have no water this evening. Never a dull moment!

Gosport Beer Festival

Last night I went to Winterfest XVIII, the 18th Gosport beer festival from CAMRA. It seemed rather quieter than previous years, but was still great fun.

Beer Fest

My favourites this year were a mild from a new brewery, Hensting, called Winchester Mild and Lemon Blossom from the Hornbeam Brewery. Both had delicious flavours and were very drinkable.

It was good to meet up with friends too and I look forward to the next event.

Cheers!
